Karine Babajanyan stars as Cio-Cio San, the beautiful Japanese girl who is taken as the wife of a visiting US naval officer and risks the ire of her family by pledging to serve him faithfully - little realising that her husband plans to abandon her when he returns to America. Madame Butterfly has become one of the most famous operatic works of all time, with this new version bringing the drama to life with staging by Michael Grandage and musical direction from Alexander Joel.
