Open House Day in Geneva

Event: Open House Day of Geneva's wineries
Date: May 12th 2008

Wine buffs staying at luxury Geneva hotel Hotel d'Angleterre in May 2008 will not want to miss Open House Day - also known as Open Doors and Caves Ouvertes.

The annual event takes place in Geneva's wine cellars on May 12th 2008 and sees hundreds of wineries open their doors for tastings of wine made from the autumnal harvests.

Next year will mark the 20th Open House Day of Geneva's wineries and a free shuttle bus will run between the different wineries.

Food tastings will also be available at the wineries which, covering 1,400 hectares, make Geneva the third largest wine producing region in Switzerland.

The first vines were planted in Geneva during the Roman Empire and the region's clay-rich and sandy soil types lend themselves perfectly to the art of vine growing.

There are over 20 varieties of grape for guests of luxury Geneva hotel Hotel d'Angleterre to try, including Muscat, Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Chasselas.

Cheers!
