Escalade at various locations

Event: Escalade
Date: December 12th until December 14th

The people of Geneva will celebrate the city's victory against the Duke of Savoy's invading troops with the annual l'Escalade festival

In 1602 soldiers tried to take the city by scaling its walls, however they did not bank on the local people defending their home with the bravery they displayed.

The invading troops were fought off and the Duke of Savoy had to accept defeat.

One famous resident was Mere Royaume, who beat the attacking forces by pouring a cauldron of piping hot vegetable soup over them.

To celebrate this show of defiance, Geneva's streets will be filled with revellers in period costume, music and markets.

Vegetable soup and chocolate marzipan abound during three days of revelry and merriment to celebrate the fighting spirit and independent nature of the Genevois.

Those planning on visiting can ensure they are safe from attack by invading troops by booking a suite at the luxury Geneva hotel the d'Angleterre.

Visitors who opt for the Luxury Weekend Break package can look forward to a buffet breakfast, a bottle of champagne upon arrival and a four-course dinner in the Windows Restaurant.
