Event: The Revenge of the Picture Archive
Date: June 4th to July 31st
For some, photography is the poor relation in the art world, considered to be a less pure expression of creativity than painting and sculpture.
Now, however, the photograph is to be given its moment to shine in a new exhibition featuring archives from some of the most influential photographers of the last century.
The Revenge of the Picture Archives showcase at the Centre for Photography will bring together works from the likes of Gustav Metzger, Ursula Biemann, Christian Boltanski and Joachim Schmid.
Showing the power of photography to document modern society and reach a wide audience, many of the images on display come from secret archives the photographers built up and kept in private.
The exhibition promises to generate plenty of debate about photography's place in the art world and couples can discuss what they have learnt over a bottle of Champagne at the luxury Geneva hotel the Hotel d'Angleterre.
With the Suite Dreams package, guests can enjoy a junior suite or lake-view accommodation, English afternoon tea and an aroma therapy set in addition to the Champagne.
